Takoma Park Boundary Stone

When Washington D.C was first laid out in the 19th century, it was marked by boundary stones at one-mile intervals along its perimeter. While not all of them remain, Takoma Park is fortunate enough to have one right in the center of our community on Maple Ave., a few hundred feet up from Carroll St., NW.

In 1917, the Daughters of the American Revolution erected iron fences to protect the remaining boundary stones. In the fall of 2002 the Takoma Park boundary stone fence was damaged by a car. Historic Takoma immediately worked with DC and Takoma Park, Maryland, to ensure that stone was protected and the fence promptly repaired.
