Purchase "Takoma Park: Portrait of a Victorian Suburb"

Takoma History

In 1993, Historic Takoma reprinted the 1984 book "Takoma Park: A Portrait of a Victorian Suburb" by Ellen R. Marsh and Mary Anne O'Boyle, which contains a wealth of information and images about Takoma Park.  Copies are available at the Takoma Book Exchange, at Westmoreland and Carroll, Takoma Park, MD (lower level).  Copies can also be purchased directly from Historic Takoma. Click here for ordering information.

What is now Takoma Park MD and Takoma DC began as a late 19th century railroad stop Victorian suburb known only as Takoma Park.  Takoma Park includes areas of the District of Columbia and Montgomery County in Maryland.   A portion of Takoma Park originally resided in Prince George's County in Maryland, but that area recently joined Montgomery County.  This area includes Sligo Creek park where a resort once stood and the Washington Adventist Hospital.  Takoma has a great diversity of homes and development from Victorian mansions to bungalows to brick ramblers.
